The Sovereign, operated as a "own-your-own" apartment complex until 1995 when it was converted to a Condominium, the major difference is how title is held. Over the years the main building has changed very little. It is still has a exterior covering of stucco which was pointed out when it was constructed has many advantages, but was very rarely used in this area at the time, but was widely used in the Middle Atlantic states and had been use extensively in England and France. As economics of the downtown area have changed so has the Sovereign and in recent years the Building has been Retrofitted for Earthquakes, up-grades have been made to the plumbing and electrical system and as we start the new millennium the future of the Sovereign is bright, having a excellent location and offering the charm that can only be found in our older buildings. Many of the units have been updated, featuring state of the art kitchens and baths, while still retaining the charm of the Hardwood Floors and mahogany woodwork. The largest apartment in the building originally owned by Mrs. Clay White, is still the largest and extends of the entire south end of the 5th Floor. |
